Copernicus (http://www.copernicus.eu) is the world’s largest open source data sharing program. Its goal is to provide continuous, reliable and free satellite Earth Observation (EO) data, with global coverage.
Recognizing its metropolitan role, the Municipality of Thessaloniki provides search, viewing and download capabilities of Copernicus satellite data throughout the Central Macedonia Region, through easy-to-use web applications, standardized web services and application programming interface (API).
The latest addition to the data available for viewing through the platform developed by GET is Sentinel 5 atmospheric monitoring data available here. These include data on atmospheric concentrations of gaseous pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone. (O3), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), formaldehyde (CH2O) and methane (CH4), for particles (indirectly through the aerosol index), as well as various information for clouds (base height, base pressure, active radiometric fraction of clouds, optical thickness, peak height, peak pressure).
Free access and viewing of this data are particularly useful in the research community with the aim of timelessly analyzing pollution and its sources, studying local and regional pollution phenomena, and studying the effects of climate change on atmospheric environment.
