GET successfully continues the development of projects in the field of Local Government, concerning the implementation, maintenance and enrichment of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs), in accordance with the INSPIRE Directive and the supply of “vertical” applications.
The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos has a contemporary Geospatial Data Infrastructure, based on open standards and harmonized with interoperability requirements, such as the specifications of the INSPIRE Directive and Law 3882/2010, for the utilization and optimal management of the existing digital geospatial data of the Directorates of the Municipality, which facilitates their operation and better service to the transacting parties.
The infrastructure hosts a large amount of geospatial data (more than 600 layers of information, 1,000 diagrams (original and georeferenced), 100 Government Gazettes, etc.) improving everyday workflows of the Municipality at an operational level (e.g. search for legislation, original documents, provision of information).
Given the positive response of both internal (Municipality executives) and external users, as well as the proven time savings during the documentation of the existing urban planning regime, the expansion of the operational capabilities of the system was deemed appropriate and the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos proceeded in a new contract with GET.
The infrastructure is implemented through an information system using free open-source software (FOSS) and with advanced web services, following interoperability standards and rules.
