GET successfully completed another project in the field of Local Government and more specifically in the Municipality of Chalandri, which being our long-term customer, has acquired a complete geoinformation infrastructure based on open-source technology.

The infrastructure hosts a large number of geospatial data and serves the functions of the Municipality at the operational level. Given the positive response of internal users (executives of the Municipality), the proven time savings during the documentation of the existing urban planning, but also of external users the Municipality of Chalandri is systematically invests in the expansion of the operational possibilities of the system.

In the scope of this project, given the maturity of the system and the transfer of know-how to the internal users of the system, the Cleaning Data Management application of the Municipality GET WASTE MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS was developed, which is based on Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS). In the case of the Municipality of Chalandri, the specific solution is provided in combination with the vertical implementation of GET PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Participatory Planning.

The individual objectives of the Project included:

  • The best internal organization of information regarding cleanliness through the geospatial dimension of the assets related to it (e.g. bins, vehicles, collection routes)
  • Achieving a common operational picture in terms of cleanliness data focusing on the real situation in almost real time in terms of collection and the condition of the bins
  • The continuous briefing of the citizens regarding the implementation of the Local Decentralized Waste Management Plan (TSD) of the Municipality of Chalandri, the actions and the measurable results of the Directorate,
  • Awareness and activation of groups and individuals especially for the expansion of the coffee bucket program
  • Raising awareness and activation through creative participatory actions on the issues of recycling, the circular economy
  • Informing and exploring the possibility of forming an energy community.

As part of the project, an application was developed for mobile devices which is used by citizens. The application provides the following possibilities:

  • the collection of complaint data regarding the garbage pickup (e.g. the aaa bin on XYZ street has not been collected)
  • the collection of complaints data regarding the quality of condition of equipment with the possibility of embedding – attaching a photo
  • information on when each bin is collected
  • information about where we can deposit a specific type of waste

The application was developed using FOSS software and is compatible with devices (tablets, mobile phones) that have an Android operating system.

The objective of the project is the efficient waste collection of the Municipality by combining updated cartographic backgrounds and an updated operational image for the rational use of the Municipality’s resources.

PROFILE

Name: Municipality of Chalandri

Website: https://www.chalandri.gr/

The Municipality of Chalandri is one of the largest municipalities of Attica. The Municipality of Chalandri is a modern city with a population of 74.192 residents based on the population census in 2011. The position of the municipality in the first urban concentration zone surrounding the center of Athens and its relationship to the main roads and high-capacity transport public media networks (metro, suburban), make Chalandri City an area hosting a range of services such as commercial users, services and entertainment that appeal not only to the citizens but also to all the area municipalities.
