GET successfully completed the project “Database Creation on issues of jurisdiction and interest of the Management Agency” which concerned the development of state of the art (geo) information infrastructure for the Mesologi Lagoon – Akarnanian Mountains Management Agency.

The development focused on the organization and integration of geospatial and non datasets of interest, the dissemination of geoinformation to the public, but also on the transfer of know-how to the executives of the Agency. The integrated system is now an essential tool for the Agency, since through it the Agency can have a complete picture of its area of ​​responsibility in order to more correctly and/or effectively plan actions and/or interventions. The development of the infrastructure was based on the use and configuration of free and open-source software (FOSS) following standards and rules of interoperability.

The implementation took place in 2 phases. The first phase included the design and implementation of the Open Data Portal, while the second phase the development of the SDI part of the system. With the creation of the Open Data Portal, users have at their disposal an easy-to-use interface through which data can be searched, but also multiple functions can be used, which allow the extraction of the desired information through the use of different types of data representation. More specifically, the following functions are supported: Data Search, Data Content View, Download publicly accessible data and Data management of users, statistics, metadata and repository categories. In more detail:

• The Open Data Portal supports user registration process with authentication procedures.
• The user has the ability to search for data of interest using different tools. Indicatively, there is a possibility of search by entering free text, group selection (based on the grouping that has been done during the cataloging), based on popularity, etc.
• Data containing digital point location information (e.g. latitude / longitude) is additionally displayed in a web map environment.
• For repository data, there is the ability to download the data in various formats, such as csv, shapefile, kml, pdf, etc.
• The web portal provides the ability to view data in different ways. The available tools create different types of real-time data representations, without the need to retrieve the data. Such representations are indicative of graphs, pies, time series, etc. with the use of which it is possible to display the total of the values ​​that are visualized each time.

For the development of Open Data Portal, the FOSS CKAN software was used in combination with the PostgresQL database management system with the PostGIS extension.

Upon completion of the process, the following have been introduced in Open Data Portal:

• > 100 project registrations,
• > 800 bibliography records (archive and bibliographic references)

Finally, the solution intergrades Sentinel 1,2,3 satellite data, available in the form of OGC webservices capable of supporting environmental monitoring.
