GET continues successfully the development of projects for Local Government authorities, aiming at the supply of “vertical” added value applications, exploiting and expanding the Spatial Data Infrastructures developed in previous projects. Municipalities of Heraklion (Crete), Papagou- Cholargos and Agia Paraskevi are representative examples of long-term customers, who once again decided to proceed to the expansion and enrichment of their systems.
Specifically, the Municipality of Papagou-Cholargos proceeded with the expansion and maintenance of the Municipality’s SDI, both by expanding the content and capabilities of the system. The infrastructure will be further enriched with urban planning data aiming at maximizing the system utilization by both external and internal users. Furthermore, the project aims at the creation of a photographic background dataset which will be used as reference along the road network of the Municipality. The aim of the pilot study is to supply the Municipality with contemporary street-view images, that will serve as the basis for urban asset management.
The Urban Planning Directorate of the Municipality of Heraklion, during the last decade, has been systematically investing in the development of the necessary infrastructure for the digital management of its geospatial data. At the same time, the use of the system and through the response of the users, the following were highlighted as necessary and are included in the new project:
- the enrichment of the system with new content
- the development of new applications ,
- providing support in order to meet the requests of users for corrective / additional interventions
Finally, the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi is proceeding with the development of the SDI of the Cleaning Division Service, aiming at the provision of a new useful decision-making tool. The infrastructure, which will be implemented utilizing the existing geographical information system of the Municipality (SDI), will be an important tool for the responsibilities of the Cleaning Division Service which relate to the study, design and suggestion for the improvement of systems and means of waste collection / transport and recyclable materials, as well as the care for the allocation, placement and maintenance of the bins.
The aim is to provide a new useful decision-making tool. The infrastructure, which will be implemented utilizing the existing SDI of the Municipality, will be an important tool for the responsibilities of the Cleaning Service which concern the “study, design and suggestion for the improvement of the systems and means that are suitable for ensuring collection and the transport of waste and recyclable materials and the cleanliness of public areas” as well as the “care for the location, placement, maintenance, cleanliness, washing and generally keeping in good condition of all bins”.
It is observed that with the enrichment and upgrade of the data and services offered through the respective Geoportal but also the maturation of these projects, the traffic shows an upward trend, as more and more users, professionals and citizens use the applications to refer to open data of the Municipalities and solve their daily problems.
