GET successfully undertook and implemented the project “Expansion and Upgrade of GIS of Agrinio Municipality”. The project is part of the actions of Development and implementation of “smart city” solutions in the Urban areas, of Sustainable Urban Development in the region of Agrinio, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and by National Resources.
As part of the completion of this project, two info days were held. The first took place on October 26th , 2021 in the hall of the Chamber of Aitoloakarnania in Agrinio and the second on November 15th, 2021 in the event hall of TEE Aitoloakarnania.
The Mayor of Agrinio, George Papanastasiou, presented the electronic application G.I.S. (Geographical Information System) of the Municipality of Agrinio, a project that is considered of paramount importance for the authority of the municipality.
The mayor of Agrinio stressed that this is a remarkable application and the main goal is to upgrade the services of the municipality. “A smart city is the city that has open data for the citizens to use and to make their life easier”, said in his introductory speech before the presentation of the program.
As Mr. Papanastasiou stressed, the G.I.S is a valuable “tool” for data management, systematization and information and has as its main goal the modernization and upgrading of the services of the Municipality.
This was followed by a detailed presentation of the program by the General Secretary of the Municipality of Agrinio, Dimitris Tziolis, the head of the Department of Quality and Organization of DA. Thanasis Antonopoulos and the representatives of GET Mr. Gabriel Mavrelli and Mr. Theodoros Vakkas.
Mr. Tziolis stated that the operation of the GIS of the Municipality of Agrinio contributes to the systematic organization of geographical information, the automation of a large amount of information, the creation of spatial planning mechanisms and the use of decision-making tools to highlight planning and development processes of the natural and structured environment.
The aim of the project is to increase access to high value, machine readable datasets by providing integrated services for cataloging, indexing, storage, search and availability of data and information of the Municipality of Agrinio, as well as online services to citizens and third party information systems and will contribute to:
- Creation of a “Digital Municipality” and a “Smart City”
- Strengthening e-Government
- Enhancing Transparency and reliability of services
- Providing wide accessibility and interoperability of services
