Application for Monitoring Water Quality – Environmental Observatory for the Municipality of Agrinio
GET in the scope of the innovative project of the Environmental Observatory for the Municipality of Agrinio, developed the specific subsystem of the Environmental Observatory which refers to the monitoring of water quality in near real time.
The specific subsystem refers to the supply / installation / operation of a fixed telemetry system for measuring water quality parameters for the Trichonida and Lysimacheia Lakes. The system provides the ability to monitor, in near real time, the water quality of the lakes.
The subsystem consists of the following components:
- Multisensors
- Unit with PV
- Mounting base
- Telemetry unit of measurements
- Automatic sensor cleaning systems
- Installation
- Installation materials
It consists of a network of sensors for monitoring water quality and of an online platform for the analysis and visualization of information. The web analysis platform allows for long-term monitoring and identification of trends and problems. The data is collected on the platform in near real time (up to an hour) and then checked, analyzed and presented through a modern geospatial web environment.
At the same time, it is possible for the operator of the Management Center to have a visual display of both the parameters of the various sensors of the Metering Stations, as well as their data, either in graphic form or in table form, independently, without the need to download data and use other imaging software.
The measured parameters are: pH, ORP, Conductivity, TDS, TSS, Dissolved Oxygen, Chlorophyll, Algae, Temperature, Salinity, Turbidity.
The information is freely provided to the citizens and to the services of the Municipality with the use of open standards, aiming to the transparency and protection of public health.
The Environmental Observatory of the Municipality of Agrinio is part of the “Digital Strategy of the Municipality of Agrinio 2019-2024” and the main “Priorities of the National Digital Strategy within the Regional Operational Programs of the NSRF 2014-2020”, and includes the creation of an environmental observatory Strengthening administrative capacity in environmental monitoring issues, while disseminating information to the public to enhance knowledge and participation in public life and the political process.

Agrinio is a city in the prefecture of Aetolia-Acarnania in the Region of Western Greece. It is the seat of the municipality of Agrinio and according to the Greek census of 2011 as a municipality has a population of 94,181 inhabitants, as a municipal district of Agrinio has 59,329 and as a city 46,899. Together with Patras and Ioannina, they are the three largest urban centers in the western part of the country.
